How to form it

  • nounのことだから

How it is used

After a word for a person, it bases a guess on that person's well-known character or habits: 'knowing A, (surely)…', usually followed by 「きっと」 or 「〜だろう」. It also works with situations, as in 「休みのことだから」.

Examples

  1. あの先生のことだから、 次の試験もきっと難しいだろう。

    Seeing that it's that teacher, the next test will surely be hard as well.

  2. 時間に厳しい山田さんのことだから、もう来ているだろう。

    Yamada is always so punctual, so they're probably here already.

  3. 夏休みのことだから、海はきっと人でいっぱいだろう。

    It's summer vacation, so the beach is bound to be packed.
