V-ようとしている: meaning and usage

Meaning

Shows change/movement A is about to start/end

How to form it

  • verb (volitional form)としている

How it is used

Some change is on the point of starting or ending: 'is about to…'. The subject is usually a natural event, a time or a thing, and it sounds rather literary. With a person as subject, 「〜ようとする」 more often means trying to do something.
