〜さ: meaning and usage

How to form it

• verb (plain form)/い-adjective+さ
• noun/な-adjective (stem)+さ
• あの/それで+さ

How it is used

A casual particle. At the end of a sentence it states a view lightly, like 「よ」 but breezier; mid-sentence (「あのさ」, 「それでさ」) it holds the listener's attention. Nouns and な-adjectives take it without 「だ」.

Examples

1. あのさ、 ちょっと話す時間ある？

   Hey, do you have a bit of time to talk?

2. 心配しなくても、何とかなるさ。

   Don't worry, it'll work out somehow.

3. それでさ、昨日の話の続きなんだけど。

   So, about what we were talking about yesterday...
