How to form it

How it is used

1) After a noun: in the role or capacity of A, 'as A'; before a noun use 「としての」. 2) 「一人として〜ない」: 'not a single one'. Different from 「にとって」, 'for A, from A's point of view'.

Examples

  1. 青を基調として絵を描いた。

    This picture was drawn with blue as the base color.

  2. 父は医者として、この町で三十年働いた。

    My father worked as a doctor in this town for thirty years.

  3. クラスの中で、その問題を解けた人は一人としていなかった。

    Not a single person in the class could solve that problem.
