Meaning

A is an example (but not the only one) out of the group B

How to form it

  • nounはnounの一つだ
  • personはnounの一人だ

How it is used

'A is one of the B', giving one example from a group without claiming it is the only one. For people use 「〜の一人」. Often combined with words like 「人気の」 or 「代表的な」.

Examples

  1. ランニングは代表的なトレーニングの一つだ。

    Running is one of the representative types of training.

  2. ここは、この町で人気の観光地の一つです。

    This is one of the town's popular sightseeing spots.

  3. 料理は、私の趣味の一つです。

    Cooking is one of my hobbies.
