〜ものとして: meaning and usage

How to form it

• verb (plain form)/い-adjective+ものとして
• noun+である+ものとして
• な-adjective (stem)+な/である+ものとして

How it is used

'Assuming A, treating A as given', as the basis for an action or plan; A may not be true. Leans formal; one also says 「〜ものと考える」. Unlike 「たことにする」, it is not pretending.

Examples

1. 予算はそれしかないものとして準備してくれ。

   Please prepare under the assumption that this is all the budget we have.

2. 当日は雨が降るものとして、屋内の会場も押さえておこう。

   Let's assume it will rain on the day and book an indoor venue as well.

3. 資料は事前に読んできたものとして、説明は省略します。

   I'll assume you've read the materials beforehand and skip the explanation.
