〜に加えて／に加えmeaning and usage

Meaning

In addition to A (not only A), B as well.

How to form it

  • nounに加えて/に加え
  • verb (plain form)/い-adjectiveのに加えて/に加え

How it is used

Adds B on top of A: 'in addition to', 'as well as'. The second half often has 「も」. It is formal or written; everyday talk tends to use 「〜だけでなく」 or 「それに」.

Examples

  1. これに加えて彼は、ヘブライ語を読むことができる。

    Above and beyond this, he can read Hebrew.

  2. 今日は雨に加えて、風も強い。

    Today, on top of the rain, the wind is strong too.

  3. この仕事では、日本語に加え、英語も使います。

    In this job you use English as well as Japanese.
