How to form it

• verb (masu-stem)+合う

How it is used

After a masu-stem: two or more people do something to each other or together (「助け合う」, 「話し合う」). Often used with 「お互いに」.

Examples

1. アランと私はしばらくの間お互いに見つめ合った。

   Alan and I looked at one another for a while.

2. 困ったときは、みんなで助け合いましょう。

   When things get tough, let's all help each other.

3. 夏休みにどこへ行くか、家族で話し合いました。

   My family talked over where to go during the summer vacation.

4. テストの前に、わからないところを友達と教え合った。

   Before the test, my friends and I explained to each other the parts we didn't understand.
