〜方（かた）: meaning and usage

How to form it

• verb (masu-stem)+方
• noun+の+verb (masu-stem)+方

How it is used

After a masu-stem: “the way of doing” (「書き方」, 「使い方」). The object takes 「の」, not 「を」 (「漢字の読み方」). For する-verbs, say 「〜の仕方」.

Examples

1. 日本の漫画の読み方は右から左だ。

   The way to read a Japanese comic is from right to left.

2. このカメラの使い方を教えてください。

   Please show me how to use this camera.

3. 駅までの行き方がわかりません。

   I don't know how to get to the station.

4. あの店員さんは、話し方がとてもていねいです。

   That shop assistant has a very polite way of speaking.
