Meaning

No matter what A; no matter how A

How to form it

  • どんなにverb (volitional form)が/と
  • どんなにい-adjective stem (without い)かろうが/と
  • どんなにな-adjective (stem)だろう/であろうが/と

How it is used

'No matter how A, B stays the same'; B is usually a resolve or a fixed fact. Stronger and stiffer than 「どんなに〜ても」; 「どんなに〜うと」 means the same.

Examples

  1. どんなに大変だろうが最後まで諦めません。

    No matter how tough it is, I won't give up until the end.

  2. どんなに反対されようが、私はこの道に進むつもりだ。

    No matter how much people oppose it, I intend to take this path.

  3. どんなに眠かろうが、宿題は今日中に終わらせなさい。

    No matter how sleepy you are, finish your homework today.
