〜甲斐もなく: meaning and usage

Meaning

Even though A; nothing (good) came of it/bad results happened

How to form it

  • verb (ta-form)甲斐もなく
  • nounの甲斐もなく

How it is used

Even though A was done, the hoped-for result did not come and the effort was wasted, said with regret: 「練習の甲斐もなく」. The opposite of 「〜甲斐があって」; it stresses wasted effort more than 「〜のに」.
