〜につき: meaning and usage

How to form it

• noun+につき
• number + counter+につき

How it is used

Two senses, both formal: 'due to', after a noun, typical of signs and notices (「工事中につき」, 「準備中につき」); and 'per', after a number (「一人につき三枚」, 'three per person').

Examples

1. 台風につき、東北本線全面運行休止。

   Due to the typhoon, all service on the Tohoku Main Line is suspended.

2. 本日は定休日につき、お休みさせていただきます。

   We are closed today, as it is our regular day off.

3. 駐車料金は、一時間につき三百円です。

   Parking costs 300 yen per hour.
