How it is used

Marks the place, time or field where something happens: 'in, at A'. A formal equivalent of 「で」 or 「に」, used in written documents, notices and speeches. Before a noun use 「における」.

Examples

  1. その詩人は人生における美を求めている。

    That poet searches for the beauty in life.

  2. 卒業式は、市民ホールにおいて行われます。

    The graduation ceremony will be held at the civic hall.

  3. 仕事における失敗は、次に生かせばよい。

    Mistakes at work are something you can learn from next time.
