How it is used

Used in questions to offer a choice between two options: 'or'. It is only for questions; to state 'A or B' use 「または」 or 「か」.

Examples

1. お昼、 ラーメンか、 それともおそばか、 どっちがいい？

   For lunch, which do you want: ramen or soba?

2. 夏休みは海に行く？それとも山に行く？

   Shall we go to the sea for the summer holidays, or to the mountains?

3. お支払いは現金ですか、それともカードですか。

   Will you be paying in cash or by card?
