How it is used

1) Purpose, 'so that A', usually after potential, non-volitional or negative forms (deliberate actions take 「ために」). 2) At sentence end, a softened instruction. 3) 「〜たように」: 'as A said'.

Examples

  1. この花瓶を割らないように注意してください。

    Please take care not to break this vase.

  2. 後ろの席の人にも聞こえるように、大きな声で話した。

    I spoke loudly so that people in the back seats could hear too.

  3. 前にも言ったように、明日は八時に集合です。

    As I said before, we meet at eight tomorrow.
