Humble verbs: meaning and usage

Meaning

  1. Humble form of A
  2. Humble form of する verbs

How to form it

  • ごnounする/いたす
  • 行く・来る → 参る/言う → 申す/する → いたす
  • いる → おる/見る → 拝見する/もらう・食べる → いただく

How it is used

Humble verbs lower the speaker's own side to show respect to the listener, for example with customers or bosses. 「お〜する」 is only for actions that involve the other person; there is no 「お寝する」. Your own family also takes humble forms.
