〜て頂けないでしょうか?: meaning and usage

How to form it

• verb (te-form)+いただけないでしょうか
• verb (te-form)+いただけませんか

How it is used

A very polite, indirect request: “could you possibly…?”. Softer and more formal than 「〜てください」 or 「〜ていただけませんか」; used with superiors, clients and strangers.

Examples

1. １０００円札を崩していただけませんか。

   Could you change a ¥1,000 note?

2. この言葉の意味を、もう一度説明していただけないでしょうか。

   Could you possibly explain what this word means once more?

3. 来週の会議の時間を、少し遅くしていただけないでしょうか。

   Would it be possible to move next week's meeting a little later?
