〜ことのないように: meaning and usage

How to form it

• verb (dictionary form)+ことのないように/ことのないよう
• verb (dictionary form)+ことがないように

How it is used

'So that A does not happen': more formal than 「〜ないように」, used in warnings, notices, rules and formal speech. 「に」 is often dropped: 「〜ことのないよう」.

Examples

1. 寝坊することがないようにアラームをセットしました。

   I set an alarm so as to not oversleep.

2. お忘れ物をなさることのないよう、ご注意ください。

   Please take care not to leave anything behind.

3. 同じ失敗を繰り返すことのないように、原因をきちんと調べた。

   We looked into the cause carefully so that the same mistake won't happen again.
