How it is used

Adds a supplementary note or point of attention after the main content: 'please note', 'in addition'. It is typical of notices, announcements and formal emails, and more formal than 「ちなみに」; what follows is usually something the reader needs to know.

Examples

  1. 昨日（さくじつ）コンビニに強盗が入りました。なお、犯人はまだ捕まっていません。

    Yesterday, robbers broke into (entered) the convenience store. Furthermore, the criminals have not yet been caught.

  2. 説明会は三時からです。なお、駐車場はありません。

    The information session starts at three. Please note that there is no parking.

  3. 申し込みは今月末までです。なお、参加費は当日お支払いください。

    Applications close at the end of this month. Please note that the fee is paid on the day.
