JLPT N2 grammar
〜ないことには: meaning and usage
Meaning
If you don't A; the condition B will remain the same.
How to form it
- verb (nai-form)ことには
- い-adjective (-く form)ないことには
- noun/な-adjective (stem)でないことには
How it is used
Unless A is done first, nothing can move forward: 'unless', 'until A, you can't'. The second half is negative, such as 「分からない」 or 「始まらない」. It stresses A as a precondition more than 「〜なければ」.
