おまけに: meaning and usage

• sentence+。おまけに、+sentence
• clause+、おまけに+clause

How it is used

Conversational: adds one more thing of the same kind on top of what was said: 'what's more, on top of that'. It often piles up bad things, though it works for good ones too. More casual than 「しかも」 or 「その上」.

Examples

1. ユリさんはとても美人だ。 おまけに優しい。

   Yuri is very beautiful. On top of that, Yuri is kind.

2. 道に迷って、おまけに雨まで降ってきた。

   We got lost, and on top of that it started to rain.

3. この店は安くて、おまけに店員がとても親切だ。

   This shop is cheap, and what's more, the staff are really friendly.
