JLPT N2 grammar

〜はともかく: meaning and usage

Meaning

Whether or not A, B; Putting A aside

How to form it

  • nounはともかく(として)
  • verb (plain form)/い-adjectiveかどうかはともかく
  • noun/な-adjective (stem)かどうかはともかく

How it is used

Puts A aside for now and focuses on B, which matters more here: 「見た目はともかく、味はいい」. Unlike 「〜はもちろん」 (A obviously, and B too), it makes no judgement about A.
