Meaning

How to form it

  • nounはさておき
  • verb (plain form)か（どうか）はさておき
  • それはさておきsentence

How it is used

'Setting A aside (for now)': puts A to one side to focus on the more important B; 「それはさておき」 changes the subject. Close to 「〜はともかく」, slightly more bookish.

Examples

    Putting him aside, what do you think?

  2. 冗談はさておき、そろそろ本題に入りましょう。

    Joking aside, let's get down to the main topic.
