JLPT N1 grammar

〜はどうあれ: meaning and usage

Meaning

Whatever the A; regardless of the A

How to form it

  • nounはどうあれ
  • nounがどうあれ

How it is used

'Whatever A may be, B': A is often 「理由」, 「結果」 or 「事情」, and B is a judgement or resolve that A does not change. Fairly formal. 「〜はともかく」 only puts A aside; this stresses that A makes no difference.
