How it is used

(1) 'Regardless of A', fairly formal, after words like age, gender or experience, and in 「何事によらず」; close to 「〜にかかわらず」 and 「〜を問わず」. (2) 「見かけによらず」: 'contrary to appearances'.

Examples

  1. 彼は見かけによらず優しい人だよ。

    Despite how he looks, he's a kind person.

  2. 彼は相手の立場によらず、誰にでも同じ態度で接する。

    He treats everyone the same, whatever their position.

  3. 何事によらず、最初の一歩がいちばん難しい。

    Whatever you do, the first step is the hardest.
