Meaning

Can't help but A; A is unavoidable

How to form it

  • verb (nai-form without ない)ずにはいられない
  • verb (nai-form)ではいられない

How it is used

Cannot stop oneself from doing something: 'can't help but…'. The subject is usually the speaker. 「〜ないではいられない」 means the same and is a bit more spoken; 「する」 becomes 「せずには」. Unlike 「〜ざるを得ない」, it is not about being forced by circumstances.
