How it is used

1) Marks the target of an action or attitude: 'toward, to A'; before a noun use 「に対する」. 2) 「〜のに対して」 contrasts two things: 'whereas A'. Unlike 「について」 'about', it points at a target.

Examples

  1. 先生に対して、 そういう言い方は失礼ですよ。

    It's rude to speak to your teachers that way.

  2. お客様に対して、丁寧な言葉を使ってください。

    Please use polite language with customers.

  3. 兄が外で遊ぶのが好きなのに対して、弟は本が好きだ。

    My older brother likes playing outside, whereas my younger brother likes books.
