How it is used

'Building on A, taking A into account': A is an existing fact such as findings, opinions or experience, and a further judgement or action follows. Fairly formal. 「に基づいて」 uses A directly as the basis; 「を踏まえて」 stresses thinking further from A.

  1. お客様のご意見を踏まえて新商品を発売します。

    We are launching some new products based on feedback from our customers.

  2. 前回の反省を踏まえて、今年は準備を早めに始めた。

    Learning from what went wrong last time, we started preparing earlier this year.

  3. これまでの経験を踏まえて、新人向けの手引きを作った。

    Drawing on our experience so far, we put together a guide for new staff.
