How it is used

Around issue A, people argue, debate or compete; it goes with words like 「議論」, 「対立する」 or 「争う」. Unlike the neutral 「〜について」, it is not normally used for simply describing or explaining something.

Examples

  1. 新しいビルの必要性を巡って市議会で討論されている。

    The necessity of the new building is being debated in the city council.

  2. 文化祭で何をやるかをめぐって、クラスの意見が二つに分かれた。

    The class was split in two over what to do for the school festival.

  3. 新しいルールをめぐる議論が、社員の間で続いている。

    Debate over the new rules continues among the staff.
